In its early years Venice prospered on the salt trade and it was Secovlje salt fields and Piran, nowadays Slovenia, where Venice got its precious salt from. It is Trieste where world˙s famous Illy coffee and Hausbrandt come from. Coffee in Trieste has been serious business since the days when Trieste was Austria- Hungarian busy port and Vienna coffee places were important in development of European coffee culture. Trieste was handling exquisite beans and became centre of the coffee production industry in whole Europe.
